Brain Hygiene

Dame Patricia Gacic

“In this world the one thing supremely worth having is the opportunity to do well and worthily a piece of work of vital consequence to the welfare of mankind.” ~ Theodore Roosevelt

Into the Order of St. George she was knighted in 2013. Patricia Gagic was my guest on this week’s Awakening to Awareness Radio Show (podcast here) and we covered a lot of territory!

Patricia is an International Contemporary Artist, Author, Business Owner, Mentor, Coach, a passionate Philanthropist, and a Social Entrepreneur. She is an inspiration to those who are or seek to be in service to humanity; is actively involved with Project Cambodia, an Angkor Wat based initiative she started in 2006 and; her volunteer efforts in support of the Somaly Mam Foundation (CNN Hero) are substantial.

This year, Patricia graduated with the inaugural class in Applied Mindfulness at the University of Toronto. We talked about mindfulness as a mindset; benefits the practice has on stress reduction and the immune and cardio systems; how it cleanses mental toxicity; its role in the field of neuroplasticity and as Patricia calls it, “brain hygiene.”

As a Baby Boomer we learned how, many times in her life, Patricia has reinvented herself and what internal forces (from an early age) have driven her interest in compassionate actions and alleviating human suffering. We heard how awareness has shaped/shapes her being and how she actively encourages random acts of kindness.

And just when it seems she doesn’t have time to sleep (which she admits she gets little of), she is also writing a book in which she tells her own story titled, “Karmic Alibi.” The recipient of many awards and honors, Patricia’s full bio can be found on the Awakening to Awareness show page (here). It’s testimony to a heartfelt giver! If you’re interested in contacting Patricia, her web site is:

  1. What an amazing woman and very interesting conversation Eric. I had no idea you had this radio talk show, I have bookmarked to go back to to see what you have there.
Mindfulness is something I practice myself (in the hope it is transformative! )so this website sounds like somewhere I need to go. Thanks πŸ™‚ Wendy.

    • She is indeed, an amazing being, Wendy. Mindfulness is a healthy and healing practice and state of being. Do check out Patricia’s website. As shared with Juan (above) who knows what door it may open for you. πŸ™‚

    • She is certainly one (of many) whose service to others we can emulate, in whatever way or time and resources permit. I admire and respect how Patricia demonstrates Social Entrepreneurism. The peace and joy of this special season to you, many fold, Chris!
